Le Cinéma, cent ans de jeunesse relies schools with organisations dedicated to cinema education.

This year, 38 structures around the world are taking part: film libraries, associations, cinemas and French institutes.

The programme is coordinated by the association "Cinéma, cent ans de jeunesse!" (Paris), in partnership with the DFF - Deutsches FIlminstitut & Filmmuseum (Frankfurt) - which is leading the Erasmus + project "Exploring CCAJ" involving the Universities of Bremen and Sorbonne nouvelle.

In the Ile-de-France region, the partners are Est Ensemble - Ciné 104 in Pantin, and Documentaire sur grand écran.

For the year of the documentary, a total of almost 2000 pupils are taking part in the CCAJ's "Filming the Other - the documentary gesture” workshops.

Among the workshops organised in 16 countries, and 8 regions in France, 52 will come together at the end of the school year to present their films at the international "A nous le cinéma!” event, hosted for the first time at the cinemateca portuguesa in Lisbon.

Nicolas Philibert was one of the 'guardian angels' of this year's workshops, and was invited to take part in the training days run by Alain Bergala.

Documentary film is a huge continent of cinema: we'll be looking at it from the point of view of a few filmmakers, and a central question that will give direction to our work in 2023-2024.

This question is filming the other.

The great vocation of documentary cinema is to confront otherness.

This confrontation is not just a question of cinema. It is essential in real life, especially in childhood and youth. It involves the very constitution of each individual as a unique subject in the relationship with the world and with others.

This question is more crucial today than ever before, in an age of smartphones, social networks, influencers and identity withdrawal. For Serge Daney, it is the very function of cinema to provide an experience of otherness. It is the art form best placed to do this...
