Contrasens

The Cultural Association Contrasens is an organization founded in Timișoara, Romania, in 2015, dedicated to promoting art and culture as essential platforms for the development of communities and citizens. The association is led by Dana Sarmeș, who has over 20 years of experience in education through culture, cultural mediation, and visual arts.

Our mission is to engage in projects that emphasize socially engaged art, education through art and film, and innovative approaches to involving the public in contemporary art, cinema, and Eastern European literature. We aim to foster collaboration between the local and international cultural communities, bridging art, research, education, and both public and private sectors.

Since 2019, Contrasens has been a partner of the CinEd film education program, which seeks to introduce European films to young audiences across Europe, ages 6 to 19. In 2023, we launched the Balkan Film and Culture Festival, Taifas, which highlights films by Balkan directors and features additional elements that create a multidisciplinary experience, combining film, gastronomy, and music.

In addition to these programs, we also focus on organizing exhibitions, publishing art-related materials, and hosting workshops, courses, and alternative events aimed at fostering education and training through culture.
