Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna is a non-profit organisation that deals with the preservation, restoration and valorization of film heritage. It was with this mindset that the Cinema Commission of the Municipality of Bologna was established in 1963. Since then, Cineteca's history has marked a path of development and progressive autonomy: in 1995 it turns into an autonomous institution, then finally and as expected, into a foundation in 2012. Over time, the institution's cultural project has been strengthened. The range of activities carried out today is wide and rich: from the preservation of the film heritage, to the excellence achieved in the field of restoration, to a growing capacity to disseminate and promote film culture to an increasingly wide and transversal audience, with particular reference to the younger generations. Indeed, the Cineteca di Bologna has always considered the importance of image education as particularly relevant. In 2006, in order to systematise all the activities aimed at schools that had been launched in the meantime and to promote stable programming for family audiences, a true educational department was set up, Schermi e Lavagne. Over time it has structured and implemented a film education approach with precise methodologies: lectures, screenings, practical workshops, contests, teachers’ training, activities for families and youngsters, making up a panorama of initiatives organically linked to the Cineteca's general programming, which take place throughout the year.
